1. What do I need to do to change my license status when I renew from "Inactive" to "Active"? To apply to change license status from INACTIVE to ACTIVE complete a new renewal application requesting ACTIVE status, provide CME evidence, and provide verification of practice in another state for at least 3 months of the year preceding the request for conversion. If the applicant has not been in active practice, the Board will require a competency update, which could include successfully passing the Special Purpose Examination (SPEX) or other programs, fellowships or mini-residencies as approved by the Board. 2. I was initially licensed less than 2 years ago. How many CME's are required to renew? Prorated CME requirements can be found by clicking here: http://www.docboard.org/me/licensure/CME%20PRORATED%20CREDITS.pdf. We have compiled our most requested Continuing Medical Education information into a single document for convenient access. This document includes the guidelines for reporting CME activity, the sections of the rules pertaining to CME, and a listing of Maine Institutions that are accredited to sponsor Category I programs. Click here to view this file (PDF) - http://www.docboard.org/me/licensure/CME%20Information.pdf 3. May I Substitute Category I CME For Category II? Category I credits may be substituted for Category II, but not vice-versa. The Board will accept without verification what candidates for license renewal claim for CME credit on their renewal application. Board staff will randomly audit 10% of approved applications to ensure hours claimed are acceptable as defined by Board rules, and will report irregular applications to the Board. 5. May I have additional time to complete CME Category I? Complete the renewal online and e-mail your request, including your full name, to the Renewal Specialist at BOM-Renewal@maine.gov, or forward a letter of request to Maine Board Of Licensure In Medicine, Attn: Renewal Specialist, 137 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333. No more than 6 months is usually allowed. 6. What events may delay my license being renewed? If you have an open complaint filed with the Board; If you are under Board investigation; If you answer 'Yes' to any questions in the 'Licensing Questionnaire' section; If you do not attest to at least 100 CME, at least 40 of which are Category I. Go ahead and complete the renewal online and Board staff will review the application and contact you if needed. 7. How can I add new licenses from other states to my Maine license record? If you didn't have any “Licenses In Other States” at your initial licensure, but now have ones you wish to have entered in your record, please email them to: BOM-Renewal@maine.gov 8. May My Home Address Remain Private? It is possible for licensees to receive renewal forms and other mailings from the Board at their home address without that address being published on the Board's web site. Maine law requires that licensees provide the Board with two addresses and telephone numbers - one set for their current professional location and one set for their personal residence location. If not chosen otherwise, the business address will be publicly displayed on the Board's web site - see http://www.docboard.org/me/df/mesearch.htm 9. How long after submission before my license expiration date is updated? A successful renewal with required CME, no 'Yes' answers, and full payment made will result in an update to our data base within 1 business day, if the renewal transaction is completed before 5:00 P.M., EDT. 10. Do you accept debit cards, Discover or E-Checks? Only Visa and MasterCard payments are accepted. 11. What am I required to do to use X-Ray equipment in my practice? All electronic x-ray producing devices and the facility where they are located require registration with the State of Maine Radiation Control Program’s X-Ray Section. Inspection and user requirements vary depending upon instrument type. For further information, visit the links below: 12. What if I transmit incorrect information?
